Kate, I would love the recipe - thank you! I'll be posting recipes for a completely Southern summer meal on my blog soon. And I may just add these lovely pies to my recipe collection!

Ethelmae - Welcome to my world!

The answers to your questions are - some are made by cutters and some freehand - I just play it by ear....artwork in the kitchen!!! The edges are just done with my fingers and a knife ....and yorkshire pudding is an English delicacy when made right - let me know if you want the recipe? they are lovely with gravy as part of a Sunday roast dinner - but my daughter likes them hot with a sweet preserve on them - yummy both ways!!!! We can exchange recipes that will be fun!!!!

These look fantastic! I've never seen anything like them. I have to ask you about the pastry - do you have cutters that you use to make the shapes, or are they done freehand? And the edges - thumbprints or individually cut squares? Please excuse my ignorance; I'm in the Southern US, and we have NOTHING like this; what are Yorkshire puds?
Oh, thank you for visiting my blog! I'll be popping back in here, as I find your recipes (and other ramblings) fascinating!

Hi Kate - what some fabulous looking pies! Anyone would want to eat them - and they certainly sound good - made my mouth water! And it's only 6 am!! Makes me want to do the same. My daughter and grand-daughter are visiting this weekend - a perfect excuse! Thanks.

A x

PS found you via "the Depp Effect" - hope you don't mind me popping in.

Oh - decorating them is the best bit - I love it when I have the time but, sadly, I'm usually in such a rush. You should get into that unused kitchen and have a go - calorie wise they're are really not too bad - I am a lifetime member of weightwatchers and not going back to the old days weightwise - they're probably less than most dishes considering how they are cooked - even the yorkies are made with skimmed milk. I'd love to see those pics when you find them!!

True, but still there is pastry.... But now you've made me want pie!!!

I have a pic of one that my younger son made which he decorated like a clock face, and one that my older one made which had something written on it and I can't remember what it was now. I'll have to look for that and remind myself!

Thank you - they are fun to make and I have to take photos because they don't last long once they are baked!
Not so fattening if there's only a pastry top :-)

Those are works of art! Very beautiful - and if they taste half as good, no wonder you're getting requests!

I used to make pies, now, not so much because they're fattening. My sons make them though!
