Keiron - no, it shouldn't be a sensitive subject, but sadly it is for some, as you know. I admire you for doing your bit to normalise it by talking freely and openly.

Kate - well, we woman are in a good position to do it, let's face it. If men can't or won't, why not? ;) Heck, most of us do the medical stuff for our dogs and cats, don't we? Why not for our husbands/partners?

I should perhaps pass the vid on to my sons' girlfriends, as well as my sons!

Keiron - The trouble is that it isn't talked about enough - the young men I have spoken to on the subject range between aware and careful to downright horrified that I even mentioned it.
And while I think of it I think we'll keep the really blunt humour off this site thank you ;-)

Jay - I think it was the speed that this moved at that was so very difficult - people really should be aware - you keep checking girl - now that conjures up some visions!

DaddyP - Well done you for having the (pardon the pun) balls to teach this in school - that is the age where however embarassing -the knowledge is vital.

Baino - You're right our generation grew up with only women being checked and prodded but now I feel a change in the air as more and more young men become aware. At the time I didn't know anything about it - but I soon learned......

@Jay - That's the thing - it shouldn't be a sensitive subject, particularly with how it affects younger men (who are more likely to be embarrassed). Fortunately those of us that have been through it are VERY blunt on the subject (and with an awful lot of humour!).

Men are so weird about this stuff. Women I think get used to being poked and prodded and papped and prepped that it wouldn't be an issue for us. Nice awareness post.

I used to be called in to teach this lesson as other male teachers found it too embarrassing. I loved it, particularly seeing the year 10/11 toughies cringing at the very explicit video of a chap examining himself after a shower. I did volunteer to do breast cancer awareness with the girls but nobody took me up on my offer ..... oh well

Nice one. I'm pretty good at checking those things. I'm well used to feeling for lumps and bumps anyway, and I find it's fairly easy to do a 'Rachel' and check without them even noticing what you're actually doing. LOL!

Well done to both you and Keiron for posting about a sensitive subject (if you'll forgive the pun). It needs publicity and bringing out in the open so men aren't so needlessly embarrassed. OH has had prostate cancer and it is a scare, for sure, but as you say, with the proper treatment, nice and early, the cure rates are high. My BIL had prostate cancer and ignored it because he felt it reflected badly on his masculinity and that it would end his sex life. And he died, so I guess in a way he was right. Hard to have sex when you're dead.
